Superiority vs Inferiority Complex
A superiority Complex is a feeling that one is better or superior to the people around him. His reason for thinking so might be based on his educational, family background, abilities, accomplishments or earthly possession. But he should remember that he was all those only because he has received them from the Lord. “… And what do you have that you did not receive? Now, if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it? 1 Corinthians 4:7
“For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God has dealt to every man the measure of faith. Rom. 12:3
On the other hand, an inferiority complex is when a person has feelings of inadequacy, whether real or imagined. This might be due to occurrences in one’s past. To these people, the Lord says:
“not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves, but our sufficiency is of God” 2 Cor. 3:5.
If you feel superior, you can be assured that there are better people than you, and if you feel inferior, also there are worse-off people than you.
In essence, the real value of a person is his relationship to (God) Lord Christ and men. The relationship is in terms of his love for both. The Lord Jesus has levelled us all, making us Kings in His Kingdom. Brethren, let our confidence lie only in this heritage.
